How to Get Your Family to Eat Fruits and Vegetables

How to Get Your Family to Eat Fruits and Vegetables

We all know how hard it is to get our children, and even our spouses, to eat the correct number of daily servings of fruits and vegetables. We eat a quick breakfast like a muffin, a bagel with cream cheese or, maybe, a bowl of cereal because we would rather sleep that extra 15 to 30 minutes in the morning. Depending on the brand the cereal may have some nutritional value but probably no fruits or vegetables.

I remember when you could at least count on your children’s school to provide a good meal for our kids once a day, however, even that has changed. Many schools are offering Domino’s pizza or other fast foods that have little or no nutritional benefits. And, as adults, we are always so busy that we don’t take the time to eat a wholesome lunch.

That leaves dinner as our last meal to get the benefits of fruits and vegetables. However, what do we usually do at dinnertime for fruits and vegetables? In my home we usually open a bag of frozen corn or a can of string beans to accompany our dinner. Unfortunately, even if we eat them there is almost no nutritional value to frozen or canned vegetables.

Of course we are saved in the evening because everyone likes a big bowl of fruit for a treat while watching television, right? Not quite, it is usually ice cream or cake or pie and the fruit in a pie is not going to complete our daily requirement for fruits and vegetables.

Simple Fact: The FDA says the average child ages 2 to 6 requires 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit per day while older children and most men and women require 4 servings of vegetables and 3 servings of fruit. For teen-age boys and active men the suggestion is 5 and 4 servings respectively of each vegetables and fruit.

Simple Solution: Juicing! Using a good juicer you can make delicious and nutritious drinks that will not only get your family the proper servings of fruits and vegetables every day, your family will enjoy them because they are tasty and easy to drink.

There are plenty of different kinds of juicers on the market and we will look into them in more depth sometime in the future, however, suffice it to say that a good juicer will help you correct the problem of not getting enough fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.

You may be surprised at some of the combinations that make a nutritious and delicious drink. Have you ever considered combining apples and cucumbers? That may not sound so good but combined they make a rather tasty and very healthy drink. Add in some spinach and maybe a carrot or two and you will be well on the way to better health through juicing.
